Mikey delivers at Party Monarch

MICHAEL “MIKEY” MERCER has been in the runner-up position in the Party Monarch competition on three occasions.
His fortunes improved to the tune of $107 500 last Sunday night, when he took the prize car and $10 000 as winner of the 2011 competition.
Mikey came through the bottom of the stage and whipped up the crowd with Pavement Anticipation.
Crowd response and presentation are a maximum of five points each, but go a long way in determining the eventual competition winner.
Mikey was one of four entertainers with the spectacle to earn maximum points for both and the crowd responded accordingly with the glow sticks that had been distributed specially for his performance.
Mikey scored 433 points, to beat four-time champ Li’l Rick by 12 points.
The difference in points was not a reflection of how close was the actual competition between the two top people; the keys to the black Kia could have gone to either. The momentary booing that greeted the announcement of the winner could be attributed to the initial shock that Li’l Rick had lost.
Li’l Rick mashed up the place with Crazy People, when he performed in second last position. His presentation was arguably the best of the day. Good sport that he is, Li’l Rick included himself among the likes of Blood, Khiomal and Edwin who had to be crazy for their actions.
Third place went to the undisputed Party Monarch, “General” Edwin, who has five crowns to prove it. He literally lit up the place with the fireworks for his presentation of Cova De Road. Members of the crowd responded in the usual fashion to him.
Defending monarch Blood had to settle for fourth place with De Experience. Blood also rocked the Bushy Park massive, which was estimated at 15 000-strong.
The finalists and the order in which they placed were: Mikey (433), Li’l Rick (421), Edwin (406), Blood (403), TC (379), Khiomal (372), Sammijane (347), Eric Lewis (341), Brett (299) and Mike Thompson (293). (YB)
