Dis Gotta Be Mas

Kings, queens, politicians and party people came out to “play mas” in Strathclyde, St Michael last night when the Lynden Grove Foundation held its annual Crop Over fete.

With the customary theme Dis Gotta Be Mas, and held under the patronage of MP for St Michael North East Mia Mottley, the fete did not only have a strong lineup of calypsonians, singing some of their best songs of the season, but there was also a heavy political blend with MPs from both sides of the fence attending the event.

Spotted were Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite, Minister of Finance Chris Sinkler, Minister of Health Donville Inniss and Barbados’ newest MP Mara Thompson. From the other side there was Cynthia Forde, Gline Clarke, Rudy Grant, Reginald Farley and Trevor Prescod.

But it wasn’t about politics, it was more about the party and people just having a ring down time at the fete.

Artistes like Calypso Monarch Popsical, Sweet Soca king Red Plastic Bag, Edwin, TC, Grynner, Mistah Dale, Alison Hinds, Peter Ram and Serenader kept the hundreds of patrons on their feet and had the party going until early this morning.

Mottley said she was happy again this year with the heavy turnout of supporters of the charity event.

Proceeds from this fete go to the Lynden Grove Foundation, which is raising money for the construction of a day-care centre for young children and senior citizens in the community. In addition, there is the planned 4 000-square-foot auditorium which the Bush Hall Community Group will be maintaining. (CM)
