16 named for the Sweet Soca Semifinals

Following the completion of the preliminary stage of the Crop Over Sweet Soca Competition, the National Cultural Foundation has announced the 16 semifinalists and one reserve.

They will compete against Red Plastic Bag during the Sweet Soca Finals which will take place at the MQI /98.1 the One Soca Royale event on July 29 at Bushy Park.

The semifinal will take place on Friday, July 6 during the Pork Lime at Wildey. Corporate Communications Specialist with the NCF. André Hoyte, said the semifinal stage was added following a request by calypsonians which came out of the Crop Over stakeholder meetings. They requested a performance and judging opportunity prior to reaching the finals stage similar to the Party Monarch Competition, he said.
